Meet Dr. Paul R. Smith
Board Certified Oral Surgeon Serving The Quad Cities
Dr. Paul R. Smith was born in Jacksonville, FL and grew up in Kensington, MD.
He attended West Virginia University for his bachelors degree and further graduate studies. He earned his dental degree from the University of Maryland Dental School, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1984.
Following dental school, Dr. Smith entered active duty in the United States Navy. He completed a General Practice Residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital followed by duty with the Fleet Marine Force in Okinawa, Japan and at Naval Hospital Charleston, South Carolina.
Dr. Smith earned his certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1992 after completing residency training at the Medical University of South Carolina.
He then was stationed aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt followed by Dental Department Head at Naval Hospital Charleston. He joined Spring Park Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 1996. Affiliation with the Navy continued through 2004 as a reservist, retiring at the rank of Captain.
Dr. Smith is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the National Board of Anesthesiology. He is a fellow in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.

He is past President for Scott Country Dental Society and for the Davenport District of the Iowa Dental Association. Presently he is an officer for the Iowa Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Smith has served as adjunct professor at the University of Iowa, School of Dentistry. He was recently inducted into the Pierre Fauchard Dental Honor Society for service to the dental profession.
Dr. Smith is married and has two children. Outside of the office his interests include tennis, music, automobiles and West Virginia Mountaineer sports.
