Meet Dr. Daniel Sarasin
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Serving The Quad Cities
Dr. Dan Sarasin grew up in a northern suburb of Chicago. He attended the University of Iowa and received his undergraduate degree in Microbiology and was a member of the University of Iowa Wresting Team.
Dr. Sarasin began his dental training at the University of Iowa College Of Dentistry in 1984 and graduated in 1988 with a D.D.S. During all four years, he worked in the neonatal intensive care unit at the University of Iowa Hospital. In addition, he was actively involved in dental research.
After dental school, Dan worked as an intern at the Iowa College of Dentistry and the Veteran’s Hospital in the department of ODMPR (Oral Diagnosis, Medicine, Pathology and Medicine) and the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS). The internship focused on patient care, research and teaching.
Dr. Sarasin began his four-year residency in OMFS in July 1989 at the Medical University of South Carolina and the Veteran’s Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. He completed the program in June 1993.
Dan moved back to Iowa and worked as an assistant professor in the Department of OMFS at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the University of Iowa Dental Clinic, and the Veteran’s Hospital. He was actively involved in treating patients, researching and educating dental hygienists, dental students, and OMFS residents.
In 1997 Dr. Sarasin transferred from the full-time academic OMFS professional to private practice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He became actively involved with the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA) as a speaker and leader in this national organization working to advance technologies and patient safety outcomes. Recently he completed his term as president of ADSA.
After 25 years, he decided to move to the Quad City area to continue his career and be closer to his family.
Outside of work, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife (Amanda), visiting his three sons (Sam, Jacob, and Ben) and brother (Steve), hanging out with his four-legged family (2 large dogs and 3 cats), golfing and pursuing a master’s degree in Advanced Safety Engineering and Management.
