Tooth Extractions

You and Dr. Smith, Dr. Lee or Dr. Link may determine that you need a tooth extraction for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease, or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

The removal of a single tooth can lead to problems related to your chewing ability, problems with your jaw joint, and shifting teeth, which can have a major impact on your dental health.

To avoid these complications, in most cases, Drs. Smith, Lee or Link will discuss alternatives to extractions as well as replacement of the extracted tooth.

The Tooth Extraction Process

At the time of extraction the doctor will need to numb your tooth, jaw bone and gums that surround the area with a local anesthetic.

During the extraction process you will feel a lot of pressure. This is from the process of firmly rocking the tooth in order to widen the socket for removal.

You feel the pressure without pain as the anesthetic has numbed the nerves stopping the transference of pain, yet the nerves that transmit pressure are not profoundly affected.

If you do feel pain at any time during the extraction please let us know right away.

Sectioning a Tooth

Some teeth require sectioning. This is a very common procedure done when a tooth is so firmly anchored in its socket or the root is curved and the socket can’t expand enough to remove it. The doctor simply cuts the tooth into sections then removes each section one at a time.

I almost never take time to write a review but felt compelled to do so due to being so over the top impressed with Dr. Paul Smith and his staff, that includes all I had the pleasure to interact with. Thank you all! On a side note, for an extraction which Iā€™m certain was neither simple or basic, 20 hours later I am experiencing ā€œ0ā€ issues or pain. Job well done!

My overall treatment was excellent. I was in charge of a retail business where customer service was extremely important and I have to provide the highest mark to the entire staff and surgeons. They were great and my surgery was very successful. I would recommend them to all my family and friends with no hesitation.

My mother has dementia and I am in charge of her health care. Sometimes she can be a handful and I never know how cooperative she will be with a doctor or dentist. When she had to have several teeth extracted I was worried about how she would behave. On the day of her appointment I was very nervous, but the staff and doctor were so good with her! One of the techs even made her laugh, My mom came through the extractions and anesthesia with no problems. Everyone who cared for my mom was excellent. I would definitely bring my mom back if she has any future dental problems.
